How to execute GARMIN interval workouts

“Technically” challenging run today!

Not technical terrain but technical to execute…

As usual my Anaerobic training load is a bit low. To address that GARMIN’s suggested workout for today was a series of short hard sprints.

I wasn’t as worried about the sprints as I was about hitting the target heart rate of 102 for the rest intervals. I knew from experience that I can’t run slow enough to do that.

The solution was to do a slow “just browsing” walk for the first minute of recovery then pick it up to a “late for a meeting” walk for the final two minutes. This seemed to keep my heart rate in the high 90’s for the rest interval resulting in an Execution Score of 85%. Close enough!

Training Effect numbers were closer to the goal than I expected as well.

Who else finds rest to be the hardest part of interval training?
